Clicksor.com Inc, a CPC/CPM ad network and free way to make money online, is a sister company of YesUp Ecommerce Solutions Inc. YesUp was founded in 1999 and incorporated in 2001 under the name YesUp Ecommerce Solutions Inc. headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Clicksor is a free way to make money, and one of the industry pioneers of contextual advertising.
As an online money making tool, Clicksor has a significant disadvantage to it, in that publishers must provide a recommended 100 keywords/phrases that are then used as the means by which Clicksor serves ads on one's site or blog. In itself, this is not bad; however, these keywords and phrases are applied site-wide as opposed to by-page. So, a publisher is essentially stuck with the types of ads that will be served based upon the keywords/phrases chosen at sign up, regardless of whether or not a new page is relevant to those keywords. The primary disadvantage would be for sites and blogs whose content and niches are really diverse and in a constant state of change.
Much like Bidvertiser, Clicksor is a "love it" or "hate it" online ad network: Many people report significant earnings with Clicksor, while others report a never ending series of problems that eventually leads to them removing Clicksor code from their sites and blogs, and never dealing with them again.
We tested Clicksor for awhile on a site and were also relatively unimpressed. After our own test, we decided to scour the Internet for opinions, comments and experiences with Clicksor to see how they would match-up with our own, and were surprised to find a history of Clicksor having advertisers that place ads with trojans and viruses in them going back as far as 2006. Now, whether or not Clicksor "allowed" these advertisers, or, they somehow slipped-through the Clicksor system is not really something we care to consider given that our own test yielded a single instance of malware nearly 5 years later (we tested Clicksor in December of 2010).
To be as fair as possible, we should note that we experienced this malware only with the Clicksor Interstitial ad format; but that is little consolation considering that it locked-up our browser--the only solution to which was to reboot our computer. We gave it about 2 weeks before deciding to remove the code. We did not click any of the banner or text ads ourselves for obvious reasons; however, we received no emails during the test period from people who had informing us about malware in the banners or text links. We also had no problems with the popunders.
The load time for Clicksor ads is below average, taking sometimes around 3-5 seconds. The graphics of the graphical banner ads is nice, but nothing that will knock anyone's socks off. For optimizing text ads, we think most reasonable people would agree that the default colors are obnoxious and 'cheesy,' for lack of a better word; so, it is probably best to alter their appearance accordingly.
Overall, we had a fairly neutral experience with Clicksor. We can't really recommend them; we can't really tell you to run. We opted-out of using them on the site we tested them on before reaching the payout amount of $50.00, so we cannot report on whether or not payments are timely and professional. Clicksor had at least 5 years to fix the issue of advertisements with malware, so we didn't bother informing them of the instance; however, we did several test contacts with them via email, and response time for us was very good (24 hours each inquiry).
Clicksor touts a truly impressive revenue share of up to 85%. The affiliate dashboard is maneuverable, but strikes us as 'primitive.' The option to make an ad "float" along the side of a page is a great option, as these floating ads yield impressive CTRs (click-through-rates) for publishers. Clicksor offers "Regular" as well as "Premium" ad set up options, with the latter being available to publishers that can prove a high amount of traffic.
Clicksor offers the ability to run default ads from another network in the event that they cannot meet your CPC/CPM expectations, an XML feed, search box, popunders, in-text ads, banner and text ads, video ads and message ads that are much like their floating ads. Banner and text ads are available in standard IAB sizes.
Network Highlights:
  • High payouts for certain sites/blogs
  • Ability to 'float' an add
  • Ability to defualt to another network you are affiliated with
  • Customer service
  • Revenue share
What Could Use Some Work:
  • Publishers need to be confident that all the ad formats they serve will be free of malware
  • Ad load time
  • Dashboard organization/graphics
